Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Does Barking Chef's Homemade Dog Food follow AAFCO standards?

AAFCO standards are misleading and wrong when they suggest that the standard pet food can fill a pet's dietary needs. There is no such thing as a meal providing "complete and balanced nutrition," for both pets and for humans. AAFCO is just a guideline that pet industries must follow. We at Barking Chef have spent countless hours with hollistic veterinarians and pet nurtionists to come up with our recipe. We assure you that it is healthy! How can you compare 'real' food to kibble?!

What is the best way to transition my pet to Barking Chef food?

If your dog has a sensitive stomach it is best to start gradually. Give 1/2 of your current food and 1/2 of our food for about 2-4 days depending on the sensitivity of your dog. Day 5-7 give your dog 1/4 of your current food and 3/4 of our food. By day 7 your dog should be good to go! It is normal for a dog with a sensitive stomach to have a little bit of diarrhea on the first day or two.

My dog loves the food but still enjoys eating kibble. Should I continue giving her the kibble?

We say drop off your bags of kibble to the local animal shelter. Dogs do become accustomed to kibble and wet food – in part because of artificial flavorings and sugar. Just like us, we too crave eating at McDonalds once in a while because since childhood we've been accustomed to the tastes of big macs and french fries. Doesn't mean that it's good for us.

My dog is 6 lbs but eats more than 8 oz a day. Should I feed him less?

This is a common question we get often. Because our foods are so rich in protein and nutrients, there is no need to feed them more. Commercial foods are cooked at such high tempreature and majority of the time it hardly has any meat that you do have to feed your dog larger amounts. Our food is always cooked on very low heat and loaded with all the nutrients and protein. If your dog is very active you can certainly bump them up to the medium size dog food.

What if we have 2 medium size dogs in our household? Can we just get 1 large size container a week?

Ofcourse you can! If you have 2 medium size dogs, just order 1 large a week. You'll get seven of the 32 oz containers a week.

I feed my dogs semi moist food (canned), is this bad for them too

Yes. It is actually worse than the dry kibbles! To keep them looking fresh and moist, manufacteres add chemicals called humectants and emulsifiers. These chemicals have similar molecular structure as ethylene glycol which is anti-freeze. They are also loaded with sugar and preservatives.

My dog is so picky and he wont eat the food!

This is rare but we have had a finiky pup or two. We slowly figure out what his likes and dislikes are and we'll customize a plan just for him! Just like humans, we all have our likes and dislikes towards food and we can work with your dog. It's possibe that your pooch is spoiled . . . but thats okay with us!

We already have a specific diet that we cook our food. We just don't have the time or the energy to make it. Will you guys make it for us?

Ofcourse! Just give us your recipe and we will make it just the way your dog desires. As long as it uses healthy ingredients, we are always up for the challenge!

My dog has a lot of health issues from allergies, matted fur, skin irritations, bad breath, and even soft and stinky stool! Will feeding Barking Chef's meals help?

Yes! We have experienced it all and customers are delighted by the sudden change in their dogs! Many even noticed the positive changes in a mattter of days!

How much should my dog weight?

This will depend on your dogs breed, weight, and metablism. The best answer would be to look at your dog. Make sure that you can see the outline of his/her ribs and there is a defined indentation of the waist.
